What the Geoify AI visibility audit checks

The five areas we check, with example checks, why each matters for AI and Google, and how the AI Visibility Score is calculated.

A Geoify audit runs 190+ checks across five areas, testing whether AI engines and Google can find, read and understand your site. It covers everything from whether crawlers are allowed in to whether your content is structured, trustworthy and fast. Here is each area: example checks, why it matters, and what a real finding looks like. Last updated: October 2026

1. Access and indexing — can crawlers reach your pages?

  • AI crawlers blocked in robots.txt (OAI-SearchBot, Claude, Perplexity)
  • A firewall or CDN refusing the AI crawlers
  • robots.txt missing, erroring, or serving a web page
  • Pages set to noindex that should rank
  • Canonical tags missing, mismatched, or pointing at dead URLs
  • Redirect chains and loops; http:// still loading; www vs non-www split
  • Sitemaps missing or pointing at dead pages ...and 30+ more.

If a crawler cannot reach or index a page, nothing else counts: no AI can quote it and Google cannot rank it.

Example finding. ChatGPT is blocked in robots.txt. OAI-SearchBot is disallowed at the root, so none of your pages can be read by ChatGPT.

2. Rendering — can they read it without JavaScript?

  • Content that only appears after JavaScript runs
  • A mismatch between the raw HTML and the rendered page
  • Title and canonical tags that are not in the server HTML
  • Content hidden behind clicks or tabs a crawler cannot reach

Most AI crawlers do not run JavaScript. If your content loads with it, they get a near-empty shell.

Example finding. Search engines and AI crawlers get a near-empty page. Your homepage ships 42 words in its raw HTML; the rest appears only after JavaScript runs.

3. Content and structure — can they tell what a page is about, and quote it?

  • Missing or weak title and meta description
  • No H1, or a broken heading order
  • Thin or placeholder content
  • The answer buried instead of near the top
  • Missing structured data (FAQ, Article, Organization)
  • Claims with nothing to back them up ...and 40+ more.

AI lifts a passage into its answer. A page that does not state what it is about, with structure and facts, will not be quoted or ranked.

Example finding. This page has no headline for search results. There is no title tag, so Google and AI have nothing to label the page with.

4. Authority and trust — is it clear who is behind the site?

  • No named author on articles
  • Missing about or contact page
  • No organization data
  • Inconsistent business identity

AI and search weigh whether a site is a credible source. If it is unclear who is behind it, you are less likely to be trusted or cited.

Example finding. Nobody is credited as the author of this post. There is no byline or author page, a signal AI uses to decide whether to trust you.

5. Performance — is it fast and stable, on desktop and phone?

  • Slow main content (largest contentful paint)
  • Laggy taps and clicks (interaction to next paint)
  • Layout that jumps as it loads (cumulative layout shift)
  • Heavy or uncompressed pages; mobile viewport, font size and tap targets

Slow, unstable pages can lose Google rankings and get abandoned before anyone, or any AI, finishes reading.

Example finding. This page takes too long to show its main content. Largest contentful paint is 4.8s on mobile, well past Google's 2.5s target.

How the score works

Every issue is tagged by severity, and each costs points: Urgent 16, Important 8, Growth 3, Low 1. Points scale up with how important the affected page is, how many pages the issue hits, and the area it falls in. Your score is 100 minus those costs, and checks that do not apply are left out.

Blocking issues cap the score. If an AI genuinely cannot read a page, a render gap or a robots block, that sets a ceiling your score cannot climb past until it is fixed. The bands are deliberately honest:

  • Poor (under 45), Weak (45 to 64), Emerging (65 to 86), Strong (87 to 95), Excellent (96+)
  • A site scoring 80 lands in Emerging, not Strong. We would rather under-promise.

What the score does not measure

Backlinks and domain authority, your brand's reputation or fame, and whether AI actually mentions you today, which depends on off-site things we do not track. A higher score improves your odds by removing what is provably in the way, but nobody outside the AI labs knows exactly how sources are picked, and it changes. No tool can guarantee a citation.

Free scan vs full audit

The free scan shows:

  • Your AI Visibility Score
  • Your issue count and one issue with its fix
  • Up to 20 pages, with a free account, in about 20 seconds

The full audit ($9 once, per site) adds:

  • Results from all 190+ checks
  • Every issue ranked, each with a fix and an example
  • The Master Prompt, and up to 150 pages
  • A shareable PDF report and one rescan
